A design to illustrate the wide variety of natural species in a British hedgerow. The Small tortoise shell butterfly is central to the work surrounded by a ring of hedgerow fruit and flowers and a pattern of common leaves.

Hedgerow species (clockwise from the top). Blackthorn, Holly, Alder buckthorn, Hazel, Guelder rose, Hawthorn, Dogwood, Dog Rose, Wild privet and Spindle.
Leaf species: Beech, Lime, Field maple, Holly, Oak, Alder, Cherry, Rowan – mountain ash, Silver birch, Whitebeam, Crab apple, Guelder rose, Hazel, Hawthorn, Dogwood and Goat willow.
